Messiah needs little introduction, being one of the most well known and loved oratorios in the choral canon, full of glorious arias and stirring ensembles, of which the Hallelujah Chorus is probably the most celebrated.
This performance features a stunning line up of young soloists:
Hannah O'Brian (Soprano) is an alumna of both the Royal Northern College of Music and Royal Irish Academy of Music. Her many operatic roles include Donna Elvira (Don Giovanni/Mozart), Tatiana (L’Aube Rouge/Camille Erlanger), Elvira (L'italiana in Algeri/Rossini), Nella (Gianni Schicchi/Puccini) , Pamina (Die Zauberflöte/Mozart) and Mary Crawford (Mansfield Park/Dove). Hannah is a recepient of many awards including the Danone Young Outstanding Female Artist Award at Wexford Festival Opera.
Eleanor O'Driscoll (Alto) trained at the Guildhall School of Music and the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. She has sung many operatic roles including Cherubino (Le Nozze di Figaro) and Lapák the Dog in Janá?ek’s The Cunning Little Vixen. As an oratorio soloist, Eleanor has performed with many choral societies. A keen recitalist, she has appeared at a variety of distinguished venues, including Milton Court Concert Hall, Sudeley Castle, and the Pittville Pump Room. Earlier this year Eleanor was delighted to make her debut at the Howard Assembly Room as part of the Leeds Song Festival Young Artist Programme.
Justin Jacobs (Tenor) is a Garsington Alvarez Young Artist based in London and Birmingham. He has recently performed the role of Bob Boles in British Youth Opera's production of Peter Grimes and looks forward to covering the same role at Opera North early next year. Justin has performed many other operatic roles and enjoys singing as an oratorio soloist. He has performed works such as Handel's Messiah, Haydn’s Creation, Mozart's Requiem and Vesperae solennes de confessore as well as Mendelsoh's Elijah, Puccini's Messa di Gloria and Bob Chilcott's Requiem.
Jerome Knox (Bass) is a graduate of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, Royal College of Music and Edinburgh University. He won first prize at the London Handel Festival Competition in 2020. Recent appearances include his debut for The Mozartists as Nardo (La finta giardiniera), his Swiss debut as Clodomiro in Handel’s Lotario, Nick Shadow in The Rake's Progress for English Touring Opera, and multiple roles in Scottish Opera’s Opera Highlights tour. He has also sung with Glyndebourne, British Youth Opera and Garsington Opera. In concert, he has appeared with the Flemish Radio Choir as soloist in Handel’s Messiah, at the Wigmore Hall as soloist singing both Bach Cantatas and Bach Magnificat with the London Handel Players, and has also joined baritone Roderick Williams for a joint concert at Music at Paxton.
As those who attended our recent performance of Haydn's Creation will attest, the choir is in good form under its new Music Director, Charlie Murray.
As usual we will be accompanied by our own Orchestra, Wetherby Pro Musica, under the leadership of Eric Clarke.
Messah is for many people, an excellent start to the festive season. Please book your tickets early!
